Food from the Heart, having started with 1 pioneer programme, the Bread Distribution programme have now extend to 4 others, mainly Self Collection Centre, Food Goodie Bag, Birthday from the Heart and Toys from the Heart programmes.
It initially started with the idea of dephishing_disabledring unsold bread and pastries to welfare organizations, needy families and individuals. But with the operations and services running smoothly, coupled with the overwhelming support garnered from various organizations and communities, we have managed to run these four other programmes successfully thus far.
Brief Descript_disabledion of our five community programmes:
Bread Distribution Programme started in February 2003 channels unsold bread from bakeries and hotels to welfare organizations, needy families and individuals. The programme is based on the willingness of bakeries, hotels and that of our volunteers to carry out missions to save bread on a daily basis, thus avoiding bread wastage.
Self Collection Centres are set up primarily to distribute non-perishable food items to the needy with the help from our volunteers to hand out the food items to the respective families.
Food Goodie Bag Programme held monthly also focuses on providing enough food for the needy in several neighbourhoods. This programme usually partners various schools to provide the foodstuff for those in need.
Birthday from the Heart on the other hand, was set up to celebrate the birthdays of the less fortunate children here in Singapore. It is held monthly at different children’s homes throughout the island.
Toys from the Heart programme is basically having donor schools donating their toys and giving them to the children of needy families.
